Responsiveness

• Buell Intuitive Response Chassis (IRC)

  A rigid chassis reduces flex and contributes to more stability in the turns. Our patented Uniplanar™ Mounting system goes so far as to use the engine as a stressed member of the frame, further improving the bike’s solid handling characteristics. The wheelbase measures 1372mm with 122mm of trail, making the Ulysses® XB12X very nimble and reactive, and with 165mm of suspension travel – you’ll have the ground clearance you need to get you around even the roughest corners.

• Frame and swingarm

  The aluminium frame is both lightweight and incredibly rigid, improving the bike’s stability in corners. By housing the 16.7 litres of fuel, it also lowers the centre of gravity, making it feel light and flickable.

• Front brake

  The Zero Torsional Load (ZTL™) Braking System consists of a 375 mm rotor mounted to the wheel’s perimeter and a 6-piston caliper. When applied, it transfers braking forces (a.k.a. torsional load) directly to the rim instead of through the spokes. Without the need for load-bearing spokes or even a second disc, the bike’s front end weighs in about 2.5Kg lighter than what you’d find on most dual disc set-ups.

• Front suspension

  47 mm Showa® inverted fork with 165mm of travel is fully adjustable to accommodate a wide range of riders and riding conditions. It delivers the right setup no matter what road you’re on, or off.

• Exhaust

  Exhausts are heavy. It doesn’t make sense to hang them up high and off the back of the bike. Our underslung exhaust concentrates the weight underneath the chassis for Mass Centralisation and it’s been a Buell staple since 1985. The result is a clean, uncluttered look and improved flickability and superior handling. In addition – the XB12X features an InterActive(TM) Exhaust system, which delivers super-smooth torque while optimising engine power and efficiency across a wide variety of engine performance conditions. Using sophisticated modeling software, engineers identified distinct engine tuning improvements that could be made by electronically altering the gas flow path between two different length chambers within the muffler. The result? Strong, smooth acceleration with legendary Buell torque-pull and a rich exhaust note.

• Rear suspension

  Simple as turning a dial, the rear shock preload easily adjusts for two-up riding, fully packed bags or both.

• Tyres

  The Pirelli® Scorpion® Sync® tyres combines the best street sport and off-road tyre technology available. The hybrid tyre construction delivers all the performance and confidence you need on the street, while providing the traction you need as you discover the corners off street.

• 6 spoke Cast Aluminium Wheels

  With braking forces distributed through the entire reinforced rim due to the ZTL perimeter mounted brake rotor, the Buell 6-spoke front wheels hub and spokes can be made extremely light, which reduces steering inertia and unsprung weight, but still maintain its overall strength and durability for rough and unpaved surfaces.

• Immediate Throttle Response Belt drive

  A unique constant tension pulley eliminates slack in the driveline, resulting in smoother on/off throttle transitions no matter what position the swingarm is in. Clean, quiet and extremely strong, the Veyance® Hibrex® belt with Flexten® Plus technology never needs replacing, maintenance or adjustments of any kind and weighs just 0.5kg compared to drive chains, which weigh 1.8-2.3kg.

Power

• 1203cc Thunderstorm Engine

  The Thunderstorm® 1203 cc, 45-degree V-Twin delivers the iconic look, thunderous sound, and power-pulsing feel that only an V-Twin engine can offer. Following the style of an American Muscle machine, you can tap into maximum torque in any gear, regardless of where the tach needle is pointing. In fact, you'll find that over 85% of the motor's torque is available at just 2500 RPMs. Simplicity and low cost of ownership make this powertrain ideal for Adventure Sport Touring. Performance and dependability are enhanced with a large crank pin, a large capacity oiling system, and an electronic timing system and ECM that controls a DDFI 3 fuel injection system. Combined, these features improve drivability and performance, and reduce service maintenance costs.

• Enhanced Air Cooling

  After you turn off a motorcycle, the oil begins to break down, causing potentially harmful engine damage. Unless that motorcycle is a Buell®. The thermostatically-controlled fan continues to cool the oil even after you pull the key. It also has you covered if you happen to get stuck in traffic. It’s one more thing we’ve done to keep the Thunderstorm® engine primed for top performance.

• A 12 Litre Air box

  The large 12 litre airbox is designed to optimise air intake and accommodate a large easy serviced air filter.

• Uniplanar Mounting System

  Using two rubber isolators to reduce unwanted vibration and three tie-bars in inhibit lateral movement, the Uniplanar isolation Mounting System decreases rider fatigue while contributing to chassis tortional rigidity for improved handling.

Rider Focused Design

• Ergonomics / seating position

  Wide bars and naturally positioned footpegs provide great leverage, enabling you to ride confidently and aggressively, while the upright riding position keeps you comfortable and reactive no matter what the terrain.

• Weight

  At just 193Kg dry, the XB12X is extremely lightweight. It feels quick and nimble, and makes cornering transitions and quick adjustments effortless - no matter what surface you are on.

• Fairing

  The front flyscreen was designed to work with the integrated windscreen to channel and deflect air to reduce buffering, resulting in less rider fatigue and a more comfortable overall ride.

• Footpegs

  Located in a comfortable natural position, the foot peg placement is perfect for riding as well as when you need to get up off the seat for unpaved roads. While the wide platform, rugged saw-tooth pattern provides increased grip in a variety of conditions.

• Instrument panel

  Clean, simple and made of featherweight magnesium, this classically designed dash features: speedometer, tachometer, odometer, two tripmeters, reserve tripmeter, clock, low fuel light, engine check light, oil pressure warning light, indicator for high beam, turn signals and neutral light.

• Tail Section

  This unique Buell innovation easily adjusts between three positions designed around comfort, convenience and ride enhancement. The passenger backrest features a subtle flex for added comfort while two different luggage rack positions and integrated tie-down hooks are designed to easily secure the load while keeping the weight centralised whether you are riding with a passenger or alone.

• Handle Bars

  Designed for maximum rider input and responsiveness. The wide, upright position provides all-day comfort and an in-command position. Keep your hands warm with heated hand grips, which are now standard equipment on the Ulysses. The grips are rated at 18 watts per side on the High setting and 11 watts per side on the Low setting.

• Windscreen

  The unique windscreen does more than simply deflect and direct airflow to make your ride more comfortable. Its snap on/snap off design makes cleaning quick and easy.

• Adjustable levers

  With rider comfort in mind - Buell features brake and clutch levers which are adjustable for reach.

• Durability Features

  The frame pucks, headlight grille, handlebar deflectors, a full rear fender and double front fender offer protection from anything you might imagine. As well as a few things you might not.

• Convenience Features

  Helmet lock provides a safe place to stow your lid while you’re away. Two auxiliary outlets (one on the dash and one under the seat) provide power for your toys. And an underseat storage area has enough room for the standard tool kit that comes with your bike along with other essentials.
