Responsiveness

We believe the perfect motorcycle is one that disappears beneath you. One that is totally responsive, reacting to your every thought. That’s how we think a bike should feel. So this is how a Buell® is designed. The principles of the Trilogy of Tech® and Multifunctional Design™ are everywhere. Top to bottom, inside and out, these are the ideas that make a Buell capable of delivering responsiveness you can’t find anywhere else.

Responsiveness

Mass Centralization
  • FUEL-IN-FRAME: By storing the fuel within a Buell motorcycle’s frame spars the weight of the gas is positioned lower than would be possible with the traditional above-engine placement.
  • UNDERSLUNG EXHAUST: A Buell underslung exhaust keeps the weight beneath the chassis as opposed to under the seat or beside the rear wheel, helping to better balance the motorcycle and make it easier to transition in corners.
  • WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION: Beyond positioning weight as low as possible, it’s also critical to distribute weight properly between the front and rear of the motorcycle. By controlling variables such as the angle of the V-Twin and the placement of the engine. Buell engineers are able to dramatically improve a bike’s handling.

Responsiveness

Low unsprung Weight
  • ZTL™ BRAKING SYSTEM: The single ZTL rotor allows the use of a lighter wheel than is possible with conventional braking systems, resulting in lower unsprung weight and reduced rotational mass.
  • INVERTED FORKS: Inverted forks reduce unsprung weight by shifting heavier suspension components like outer tubes above the springs.
  • IMMEDIATE THROTTLE RESPONSE™ SYSTEM: This durable zero-maintenance, high-performance belt weighs only 1.06 lbs. compared to drive chains which can weigh as much as 5 lbs.

Responsiveness

Chassis Rigidity
  • TORSIONALLY STIFF FRAME: Our aluminum frame offers outstanding torsional stiffness without sacrificing light weight or proper lateral flex.
  • SWINGARM: The aluminum swingarms are engineered to match the rigidity of the frame.
  • TRIPLE CLAMP / FORKS: Front end torsional rigidity is enhanced with stiff inverted forks and triple clamps.
  • ENGINE AS STRESSED MEMBER: Both the Helicon® engine and Thunderstorm® engine are integrated as stressed members of the chassis. The Helicon engine through rigid mounting and the Thunderstorm engine through the use of our Uniplanar® mounting system.
