Pure Muscle

Nothing can replace the signature look, the purposeful growl and the unmistakable feel of an air-cooled V-Twin. But it’s more than character, it’s performance. The Thunderstorm engine’s unrelenting powerband pumps out 85% of the 1203cc engine’s 84 ft/lbs. of torque at just over 2500 RPM. With all that grunt on tap, it’s easy to see why this motor is a favorite among riders, year in and year out. You get broad, smooth power and rock-solid dependability with hardly any maintenance at all.

air/oil/fan-cooled, four-stroke, fuel-injected 45˚ V-Twin
  • USABLE POWER: 1203cc models redline at 7100 RPM and 984cc models redline at 7500 RPM. The power is right there when you need it. So you won’t have to wait for the engine to rev up to the powerband.

  • UNIPLANAR™ MOUNTING SYSTEM: Three isolators reduce vibration while three tie-bars inhibit lateral movement. This enhances rider comfort and contributes to chassis torsional and lateral rigidity for improved handling.

  • AUTOMATED TIMING: Electronic engine management system actively monitors and adjusts fuel mapping and timing to current riding conditions for improved ride quality and superior service life.

  • LARGE CRANKPIN AND BEARINGS: Enhances durability over the service life of the vehicle while its innovative engine sprocket joint bolt design simplifies access.

  • CAM-DRIVEN, HIGH OUTPUT OIL PUMP GEAR: Derived from the XBRR™ production race motorcycle, this track-tested component improves internal oiling for the crankpin and bearings, increasing service life for all dynamic systems of the powertrain.

  • DDFI III: Actively controls and monitors the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS), Idle Air Control (IAC) and spark timing, automatically zeroing the TPS and adjusting fuel metering at idle and throughout the driving range of the engine to provide a smoother idle and reduced maintenance.
